Safety Around Water
Terrific Turtles

Swim lessons provide important life saving skills that could save your life. The Y provides lessons for anyone 6 months of age and older. All YMCA swim instructors are nationally certified and certified in CPR, AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration. Click here for more information.

The YMCA's Safety Around Water program can help you make sure they learn essential water safety skills, which can open up a world of possibilities for them to satisfy their curiosity safely. Through learning how to perform a sequenced set of skills over eight lessons of 40 minutes each, the risk of drowning is reduced, giving your child confidence in and around water. Click here for more information.

YMCA Swim Team, the YBR Hurricanes, is a competitive program where swimmers from different YMCA branches train in skill development and endurance to compete with each other and as members of the Greater Baton Rouge Swim League. Click here for more information.

The Y offers a full YMCA of the USA Lifeguard Training certification course for anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard. Those who participate in the YMCA's lifeguard certification program learn the necessary lifeguard skills to perform CPR on a child, adult and infant, use an AED and perform first aid. Click here for more information.

The YMCA of the Capital Area has large, heated indoor and outdoor pools so you can enjoy the benefits of water exercise year-round. Water exercise is for everyone regardless of age, ability or fitness level. The majority of our certified instructor led classes are held in the shallow end of the pool and do not require you to know how to swim. Click here for more information.
