EXERCISE FOR PARKISON'S
We offer a variety of programs for people with Parkinson’s.
With Parkinson’s Disease, all movement matters! Our programs aim to slow disease progression, ease symptoms, and provide a supportive environment for participants and their families.
PD PEDALERS
Indoor cycling is designed improve balance, movement and overall conditioning. This program is an on-going program offered for FREE through a community grant.
This 60 minute program is open to all community members, Parkinson's Members and their Care partners. 6-month Memberships are also given out by request, funded by our grant as well.
Level 1: This class will be conducted on recumbent and/or stationary bikes. No special equipment is required. A. C. Lewis YMCA Tuesday and Thursday 1pm - 2pm.
Level 2: This class will be conducted on upright, spin bikes. Suggested Equipment: padded bike shorts and tennis shoes to fit inside of a pedal cage or bike shoes. Paula G. Manship YMCA, Monday and Wednesday 12pm - 1pm.
PING PONG
Ping Pong for PD is a great way for people with Parkinson's and their caregivers to stay active and social. Research shows it can also help improve cognitive skills, hand eye coordination and balance! Ping Pong is available at the A. C. Lewis YMCA on Friday's from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm.
CHAIR YOGA
Chair yoga for Parkinson's disease uses modified yoga poses performed while seated to improve balance, flexibility and strength while reducing the risk associated with standing exercises. This class is offered at the A. C. Lewis YMCA on Tuesday and Thursday from 2pm - 3pm.
